The Philadelphia Eagles are no strangers to having their assistant coaches and coordinators plucked from their staff. It comes with the territory of a team that has won two Super Bowls in the last eight seasons and only missed the playoffs once during that span.
Just last year, they had offensive coordinator Kellen Moore stolen by the New Orleans Saints to fill their head coaching vacancy. Over the last few years, they have also seen Shane Steichen, Jonathan Gannon, and Frank Reich all earn head jobs with other NFL teams directly from the staff in Philly.
There are already several jobs open, as the Tennessee Titans and New York Giants both fired their head coaches mid-season. The Eagles have one of the league's best defensive coordinators in Vic Fangio, but at 67, the fan base is hopeful he's no longer a viable candidate.
Eagles' Kevin Patullo could interview for Giants' head coaching vacancy
Philadelphia's offensive coordinator, Kevin Patullo, has made a fool out of himself this year by tanking Kellen Moore's offense from the last few seasons. Still, however, Sports Illustrated's Conor Orr believes that Patullo is a head coaching candidate and that the Giants will be interested.
"Patullo’s strength is his ability to think big picture. Nick Sirianni has leaned heavily on the longtime NFL assistant for his ability to help build a staff and craft larger-scale decisions that can impact the team," Orr wrote. "From that standpoint, Patullo has been instrumental in helping the Eagles survive myriad coordinator and personnel changes over this run of unprecedented success in Philly. With the Giants’ job being open, it would be a surprise if a division rival did not bring him in for an interview."
This report comes as a surprise for two reasons: One is that Patullo has any strengths, and two, that any franchise would want to leave him to run their offense, let alone their entire operation. Patullo has been a disaster as the play-caller in Philadelphia, so it's a marvel that he is considered a candidate.
Eagles fans, however, would laugh out loud if Patullo did indeed take over the Giants, because they know how much more of a dumpster fire their little brothers in the NFC East would become if Patullo took the lead.
Fangio would foam at the mouth thinking about all the third-down bubble screens that Patullo would dial up, and Fangio would know that once Patullo burns the Eagles on something, they'd never have to worry about seeing that play, or a similar one, again.

In reality, it is more likely that Patullo is fired in Philadelphia than it is that he lands a head coaching job. A return to being a position coach is far more in order than a promotion is. That said, Eagles fans can't help but cheer for Orr's scenario to come to fruition.
