Eagles finally give injury update on key player (but not who fans think)

Not who I thought it would be....

Philadelphia Eagles fans have been waiting to hear about some of their key injured players, like Lane Johnson, Nakobe Dean, and Andrew Mukuba, to confirm whether they are good to go or at least close to playing.

The Eagles did give an update on one of their injured players, but it wasn't any of them. Instead, it was the team opening the 21-day practice window of edge rusher Azeez Ojulari.

Eagles fans might forget that Ojulari has been on IR over the past two months after injuring his hamstring against the Minnesota Vikings and hasn't played since. Ojulari's injury led Brandon Graham to come out of retirement and the team to trade for Jaelan Phillips.

Azeez Ojulari coming to help the Eagles in the postseason

Ojulari didn't play much during the regular season, appearing in only three games, as he got buried on the depth chart behind players like Za'Darius Smith (before his retirement), Nolan Smith Jr., Jalyx Hunt, Josh Uche, and Patrick Johnson, who got more looks. In those three appearances, Ojulari racked up six tackles, one quarterback hit, and one tackle for loss.

The Eagles now have even more depth at the edge rusher position and might not even have room for Ojulari to play. A lot of the season, at the beginning, he was inactive for games. There's a very good chance that could happen again, as the Eagles have enough to work with.

Philly signing Ojulari to a one-year deal will end up being looked at as a major disappointment for a guy who racked up 37 quarterback hits and 22 sacks in his first four years in the NFL with the New York Giants. The likelihood of Ojulari being back on the roster in 2026 seems pretty slim.

Eagles fans will have to continue to wait for other updates until the injury reports come out, but at least there is another option at EDGE if an injury pops up in the postseason.
