The Philadelphia Eagles decided to trade guard Cam Jurgens to the Baltimore Ravens. They were able to net a 2027 fifth-round pick and a 2028 second-round pick, while the Ravens got Jurgens and a 2027 seventh-round pick.
Considering the level Jurgens was playing at through four games this season, the fact that the Eagles were able to get that kind of draft compensation in return is a huge win for GM Howie Roseman and the future of the organization.
Eagles' Cam Jurgens trade is a big win for future
Jurgens moved to left guard after Landon Dickerson went on IR, but that move didn't work out in his favor. According to Pro Football Focus, Jurgens has a 38.7 overall grade (73rd among 74 graded guards), a 50.3 run-blocking grade (65th among 74 graded guards), and a 31.7 pass-blocking grade (68th among 74 graded guards).
Of course, these grades aren't the be-all and end-all; from what Jurgens looked like to the eye, these grades seemed to be on par. Jurgens also allowed 12 pressures and committed four penalties. Despite being a sound starter in the four years prior with the Eagles, things just looked off for him in 2026.
Some of it goes to him moving from center to guard, but at the same time, his performance was nowhere near good enough. He knew that, and so did the team. Although he was highly ineffective thus far, the Eagles still got the Ravens to overpay.
Baltimore has placed both centers, Ethan Pocic and Jovaughn Gwyn, on IR with injuries, and they were desperate to get someone else in the building. Instead of standing pat, Howie Roseman pivoted off a player who took a step back and gained some valuable assets for the future.
They were also able to move Jurgens' $68 million extension that he inked in 2025. So not only did they get trade capital, but they freed up some cap space. It's clear that the Eagles have one eye on the future, and now they will enter the 2028 NFL Draft with serious ammo. Philadelphia will own two first-round picks and two second-round picks.
That will allow them to infuse this roster with young talent and add players for a new era of Eagles football. Philadelphia has already dealt with adversity in the first month of the season, and it'll be interesting to see how they respond.
The once-vaulted offensive line will be without Jurgens, Dickerson, and future Hall of Famer Lane Johnson. That's without mentioning that the offense will be without Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith for a few weeks as they deal with hamstring injuries.
It's going to be an uphill climb for the foreseeable future on offense, but fans should be excited for the future. Roseman has shown he can draft fairly well, and he'll get a chance to bolster this team for the long haul in 2028.

The fact that he was able to get this sort of return for Jurgens is baffling, and it will help the Eagles in the long term. Even though a game hasn't been played yet, this has to be considered a huge win for Roseman.
