The Eagles made a series of transactions as the team prepares for their Week 14 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers.

The team announced that their experienced reserve safety Marcus Epps could return soon, as he activated his practice window. They also released veteran practice squad cornerback Parry Nickerson.

Reinforcement is on the way for the Eagles at safety

Epps' potential return comes at a time when the Eagles are uncomfortably vulnerable at the position. Andrew Mukuba is currently on injured reserve, Reed Blankenship is playing despite an injury, and the Sydney Brown experiment seems like it should have been over about a year ago.

Epps has started 45 games in his career, with 25 of them coming during his first tenure with the Eagles. So far this season, Epps has appeared in eight games, seeing 15 snaps on defense and 119 on special teams, registering six tackles on the year.

Nickerson has not appeared in a game for Philadelphia since October 26 against the Giants. The seven-year veteran has appeared in five games for the Eagles, joining the active roster before Philadelphia's week four matchup against the Bucs.

In his five games, Nickerson appeared in 72 total snaps (12 defensive, 60 special teams), registering two tackles as well. Nickerson has been with the Eagles since 2024, earning a Super Bowl ring with the team last season.

With the Eagles banged up in the secondary last week, the team elevated second-year safety Andre' Sam to help supplement the depleted unit. With the possibility of Epps returning, the Eagles will have more options in the back end of their defense to either move around Brown, primarily to a special teams role, or allow Reed Blankenship some time to recover from his nagging injuries.

The Eagles will take on the Chargers in Week 14, who, despite Justin Herbert dealing with a broken bone in his non-throwing hand, will most likely still be the Chargers' starter. The Chargers offense currently averages 224.7 passing yards per game, which is 12th-best in the league. The Eagles' defense has allowed 218.3 passing yards per game, and over 245 in the past three games.
