There were plenty of positives to take away from the Philadelphia Eagles' 24-22 win over the Washington Commanders in Week 1 of the 2026 regular season, but there is a problem that might be arising after that game.
Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was under duress throughout the game, with the Commanders bringing a lot of pressure. Hurts was sacked three times in the game.
It really wasn't his fault, though, as it could have been worse for him; Hurts was able to use his legs to avoid more sacks. With that being said, though, the offensive line mightily struggled, with one glaring problem being revealed in this contest.
Eagles' interior linemen, Landon Dickerson and Cam Jurgens, were a problem in Week 1
That might be a surprising headline to use when Eagles fans know that Dickerson and Jurgens combine for five Pro Bowls between the two. Despite that, though, they both StruggledStill against the Commanders.
The biggest issue was that they were called for multiple penalites. How about three to count them up? For two guys that are supposed to be top 10 in the NFL at their positions, that's not a good look at all.
Diving deeper into Dickerson's performance, it's hard to believe how much he struggled in the game. The Score's Brenden Deeg broke down Dickerson's performance during the Commanders matchup, and the numbers further show that he did not play well at all.
"Landon Dickerson allowed 4 pressures and 1 quarterback hit today. Among 138 qualifying offensive linemen so far in Week 1, his 40.3 PFF grade ranked 136th."
It's just one game, so there's no reason to panic, but this is now becoming a pattern with Dickerson, and he isn't the same player he used to be. Something changed last year that has turned him from a top talent to a very average lineman.
He wasn't always like this, though, after making three straight Pro Bowls from 2022 through 2024. Eagles fans can't help but wonder whether his injuries from last year are still affecting him or if there's a deeper problem.
Philly's interior offensive line has to get better, as it's kind of a bad look when Tyler Steen is outperforming two Pro Bowl linemen. New offensive line coach Chris Kuper has to work on pass protection.
To ensure this article isn't all doom and gloom, at least the Eagles' offensive line did well with run blocking. They rushed for 136 yards and averaged 5.4 yards per carry, which is already better than in 2025.

Still, Eagles fans simplay can't ignore what is going on with Dickerson and Jurgens. They have no excuse for their poor performance. They must do better in the future.
