The clock struck 4 p.m. EST on the East Coast. When you're a football fan, it may as well be striking 12. We won't be as dramatic as to say stagecoaches are turning into pumpkins or anything, but Friday's before game days are typically when we see a status report. For the second-seeded Philadelphia Eagles, it's rather lengthy.
But, we expected that!
Eagles injury news: Jalen Hurts is out while ten starters are doubtful to play.
During his final presser of the week before the Birds throw on their all-black ensembles and welcome the New York Giants, Sirianni offered nothing about Jalen Hurts' status other than to say "He's progressing through the protocol". A tad over four hours later, Driday's injury report was offered. QB1 is out. Ten other starters have been ruled 'doubtful'.
There are no real surprises there. Philly can't do any better or worse than earning the seventh playoff seed. So, it makes sense to give guys the week off and prepare for the Wild Card Round. There's no need to risk anyone's health.
More Eagles injury news: An update on Dallas Goedert
As you can see, Dallas Goedert was a full participant in practice if that tells you anything. Seriously, what is this? A walkthrough?
Still, he's been someone we have kept our eyes on since the Eagles opened his 21-day practice window. He'll still need medical clearance from team physicians to be cleared for a return. Until that happens, he won't be elevated from the injured reserve to the active roster.
He did, however, speak with the Philly media on Thursday.
Something tells us that he won't play either.
Here's something of note. The Philadelphia Eagles have never lost to the New York Giants while wearing their all-black ensemble. If they happen to place one in the loss column this Sunday, at least we can state they did so because they weren't giving this one their all.
However, something tells us they're still good enough to beat the G-Men if they play Tanner McKee and a bunch of backups.
