Things have seemed to escalate for Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert this week. The veteran tight end has just one year remaining on his deal, but he might not even get a chance to play that out in Philadelphia.
On Friday, a report surfaced that suggested the Eagles were going to try and trade Goedert, along with defensive end Bryce Huff.
The thought of the Eagles trading Goedert may or may not have been a surprise to some fans. But, the Eagles' next move after the trade rumors surfaced will certainly add fuel to that fire.
The Eagles signed tight end Kylen Granson to a 1-year deal
Just a little while after the Goedert rumors and report became known, the Eagles went out and signed another tight end by inking former Indianapolis Colts draft pick Kylen Granson.
This news comes a day after Philly signed Harrison Bryant. Yep, the Eagles have added two younger tight ends in a matter of two days.
The writing appears to be on the wall for Goedert, who could also be in the mix for a release if Philadelphia can't find a trade partner for the former South Dakota St. standout.
The 2018 second rounder has struggled to play a full season in recent years, missing 15 games over three seasons due to injury. Over the last four seasons, his production has steadily declined as well, finishing with a career-high 830 receiving yards in 2021 and only going down each year on out.
It might be hard to believe, but Goedert is already 30 years old.
If the Eagles cut Goedert, they absorb a dead cap hit of over $9 million. If, for some reason, they can get away with designating him as a post-June 1 cut, then they're able to save over $4 million.
