The reports on cornerback Jaire Alexander looking to step away from football appear to be true, as the Philadelphia Eagles have confirmed it.

Philly made the news official with their announcement of placing him on the Reserve/Retired List. Good news for Eagles fans, though, is that Jakorian Bennett is officially back from IR as the team has activated him.

Bennett has only played in three games this season for the Eagles, racking up six tackles and one pass deflection. He left the Week 3 game against the Los Angeles Rams with a pectoral injury that resulted in him being placed on IR.

It was already reported that Alexander told the team he would be stepping away from football to focus on his physical and mental health. While he has not yet announced his retirement, it would be the second new player to join the Eagles and step away this season, following Za'Darius Smith's stunning retirement announcement.

Eagles get Bennett at the right time, but how much will he play?

One thing that Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio values more than anything is a player who stays available and knows the defense well. Fangio has not been able to get a good grasp on what kind of player Bennett can be in this defense, so he might not get as much playing time off the bat.

As much as Fangio is not the biggest fan of Adoree' Jackson, he is the favorite now to stay on the outside for the Eagles. Cooper DeJean could still get a chance to play more on the outside, but Fangio is a big fan of him staying in the slot.

There's still the question about what the Eagles are going to do with Michael Carter II, whom they traded for before the deadline. Carter is more of a slot corner, so will he not get a chance to play with DeJean there?

The Eagles have some big decisions to make on defense with Bennett back, but the hope is that Jackson can build on the momentum of his solid game against the Green Bay Packers and stay consistent for the rest of the season.
