Eagles need to stay very, very far away from a Carson Wentz reunion

It ain't worth it.

Are we really doing this right now? A Carson Wentz reunion for the Philadelphia Eagles?

Yes, Eagles fans, multiple media outlets are pitching the idea that the team should call the Minnesota Vikings to trade for Wentz. It wouldn't be the first time the Eagles and Vikings have traded for a QB, though. Philly traded for Sam Howell from Minnesota last year, as Howell was the Eagles' third-string QB.

This stems from the news that Jalen Hurts is out with a blood clot from a calf injury he suffered. With Hurts out, Tanner McKee is the new starter, so everyone thinks the Eagles need to add another quarterback. Why not Wentz?

Wentz brings back memories of all the great things he did for Philly, including helping the team win their first Super Bowl. He also has some not-so-good memories, including the endless injuries before the Eagles traded him to the Indianapolis Colts. Let's not go down this route again.

Eagles better ignore the media and stir clear of Carson Wentz

Let's take a moment to appreciate what Wentz did in his five seasons with the Eagles. He went 35-32-1 as the starter, completing 62.7% of his passes for 16,811 yards, 113 touchdowns, and 50 interceptions. Wentz also added 1,061 rushing yards and eight touchdowns in 68 games.

During those five years, Wentz made the Pro Bowl, earned second-team All-Pro honors, and finished third in MVP voting in 2017. An ACL injury that season derailed what would have been an MVP season for him, but he still played a major role in the team winning the Super Bowl.

He also helped the team out when he was sent away in a trade. The Eagles got a 2021 third-round pick and a 2022 first-round pick from the Colts. That first-round pick went to the New Orleans Saints, and the Saints later sent the Eagles a first-round pick in 2022, which was used in one last trade for A.J. Brown. Worked out pretty well for the Eagles.

Now to the part where we slam the idea of a Wentz trade: it doesn't make sense. To Wentz's credit, he is 2-0 as a starter for the Vikings this season and was decent before Kyler Murray took his job back. The problem is that Wentz isn't the same quarterback he was when they drafted him.

Could an Eagles fan imagine Wentz behind this Eagles offensive line? Yes, Eagles offensive coordinator Sean Mannion could just call the quick pass, but Wentz would get killed behind this offensive line and panic too much in the pocket.

Philly also doesn't really want to waste their draft picks right now, even though Wentz would probably cost a day-3 pick. The Eagles need to save their draft picks for the future, with a rebuild on the horizon.

Plus, the franchise believes McKee is the replacement starter after four years with the team. If the Eagles needed to add a quarterback, they could call Andy Dalton and try to bring him back. If not, other younger options would make sense to bring in.

The Eagles need to stick with McKee and let him ride it out to see if he's a guy they should keep. Wentz won't make them any better if they trade for him, so anyone pushing for a trade needs to move on. This is McKee's team right now, and that's exactly how it should be.
