Eagles news: Jaguars ditch a starter, Stoutland University adds another student
It's been a busy couple of days. Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni met with the media on Monday and Wednesday. His coordinators spoke on Tuesday. The task is known, preparing for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Roster moves have been made. Doug Pederson is on our minds again. And, believe it or not, Philly's linebackers have been praised by Pro Football Focus.
Let's get into a few housekeeping notes. The Jags shuffled their offensive line just days before their trip to Pennsylvania.
Eagles news: The left side of the Jaguars offensive line gets a facelift
The NFL Trade Deadline is circled on every NFL team's calendar each season, even if no one makes any moves. Perhaps Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said it best.
He'd rather not change his defense at this stage of the game. He believes guys added this late often don't make much of a difference. The Birds got lucky with Jay Ajayi many moons ago, but for the most part, Vic's theory has been proven accurate.
The deadline is November 5th at 4 p.m. EST. So far, Philly has been relatively quiet. Their opponent this week hasn't been.
NFL.com's Grant Gordon announced on Tuesday the Jags have traded their now-former starting offensive tackle Cam Robinson to the Minnesota Vikings. They'll receive draft compensation as payment, but this has direct impact on Philly's coming game.
What was first a Josh Sweat-Cam Robinson battle is now a battle between Sweaty and Walker Little. He's no slouch. A 2nd round pick of the Jags in 2021 (45th overall), he's played 1,265 offensive snaps during 48 games with 18 starts. Keep an eye on the left side of the line come Sunday.
More Eagles news: Stoutland U adds another student
We can't imagine any offensive lineman being offered an opportunity to work with Jeff Stoutland and frowning. What an opportunity, right? Philly's O-line coach might have been the best gift Chip Kelly gave us. After all, Lane Johnson and Zach Ertz were Howie Roseman's draft choices.
Stoutland U, as it's affectionately called, has turned good players into Pro Bowlers and future Pro Football Hall of Fame inductees. It has even turned a former rugby player into one of the game's best left tackles.
It's now added another student, Braeden Daniels, He's a former Utah Ute and 2023 fourth-round draft selection (Washington Commanders). This season, he's since spent time on the Houston Texans' and LA Rams' practice squads.
Philly announced on Wednesday that he's been added to their practice squad. He now occupies the spot formerly owned by Siaki Ika. The latter was cut on Tuesday evening.
