The Philadelphia Eagles will officially not have their star quarterback, Jalen Hurts, for a long time.
NFL insiders Ian Rapoport and Adam Schefter report that the Eagles will place Jalen Hurts on IR, effectively ruling him out for at least the next four games. Hurts was ruled out of the Eagles' Week 6 game against the Carolina Panthers after a blood clot from a calf injury he sustained in the team's Week 4 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Here is what Schefter said in his breaking news.
"Breaking: After consultations with numerous doctors and experts that went into Saturday, the Eagles are placing quarterback Jalen Hurts on injured reserve, sources tell @rapsheet and me. The move will sideline Hurts indefinitely.
More info to come."
Eagles will not have Jalen Hurts for awhile after being placed on IR
This was the expected outcome for Hurts after medical experts estimated his return to be between three weeks and three months. The Eagles will now have to try to survive without him for at least four games.
Tanner McKee will be starting for the Eagles while Hurts is out. They signed Joe Milton to be the backup to McKee, but for Week 6, it will be rookie Cole Payton backing up McKee.
McKee has started two games in his career, both happening in Week 18. Milton and Payton have not started any games in their young NFL careers.
It's a crushing blow for the Eagles, who are sitting at 2-3 and have lost three straight games. This has the potential to be the spark that lights an even longer losing streak.
Hurts' injury is just the lates in a string of injuries this team has been dealing with this season, including DeVonta Smith, Saquon Barkley, Jonathan Greenard, and many more. There were 24 players who were listed on the final injury report if that tells fans anything.
There is always the outside shot that McKee will end up being the guy that helps the Eagles get to the playoffs and ride the wave of bad luck. The reality is that this franchise has just had too many bad things happen for that to be a realistic possibility at this point.

Over the next four games, the Eagles have a chance to prove the fan base wrong and show that they can win without Hurts or many of their stars. The hope is that they can figure out how to do it, but it is not looking great for a team that was just winning the Super Bowl two years ago.
