The Philadelphia Eagles have one more week before they must make their final decisions on the 53-man roster.
The Eagles have completed two preseason games, losing both to the Baltimore Ravens and the New England Patriots. While they showed progress in the second matchup against the Patriots, the Eagles are starting to get a better sense of their roster.
That led the team to announce it had waived two players. Safety J.T. Gray was released from the team, and running back Ja'Quinden Jackson was added to it as well with an injury designation.

Gray was seen more as a special teams ace than a defensive back, but struggled in the preseason. He dropped an interception against the Patriots during their preseason game.
Jackson was unfortunately hurt on the opening kickoff of the New England game and was sent to the hospital. He was released shortly after the game and traveled home with the team.
The reality with Gray was that he didn't provide enough on defense to keep him on the roster. He was more of a special teams guy and has been a great gunner, but the Eagles need depth in the secondary at this point. While the Eagles would have loved to keep Gray on the roster, he didn't contribute enough on defense to justify keeping him.
Even if Jackson was healthy, he had an uphill battle to make the roster, especially since he was signed after training camp began. Between Will Shipley, Dameon Pierce, and Carson Steele fighting for the third and final roster spot at running back, Jackson never stood a chance. The best that Jackson could have done was make the practice squad.
This is only the beginning of the roster moves the Eagles will make over the next week, as they enter the final preseason game of the year against the Cincinnati Bengals. Battles will be decided, and multiple players will lose. The Eagles had 91 players entering training camp, and they will have to get it down to 53 by the end of the week.

It'll be an interesting week of training camp for the Eagles, and we'll see who on the roster steps up to make the team. Regardless, expect more changes in the coming days.
