Well, the Philadelphia Eagles have their solution at backup quarterback, and it's a pretty good option in so many ways.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz first reported that the Eagles are signing quarterback Joe Milton from the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad. The Milton signing comes after Jalen Hurts was ruled out of Philly's Week 6 game against the Carolina Panthers with a blood clot stemming from his calf injury.

Milton has played in five career games, completing 69.8% of his passes for 424 yards and two touchdowns, with two interceptions. He has also rushed for 66 yards on 15 carries and one touchdown.

Joe Milton joins the Eagles with his signing help the team in multiple ways

Milton is a great addition to the Eagles' roster and can help in many ways. Most importantly, the Eagles now have the depth they need at quarterback.

Tanner McKee will start in Week 6, with the only other quarterback on the roster before Milton being rookie fifth-round pick Cole Payton. The Eagles don't want Payton to play quarterback at any point this year, so Milton immediately becomes the backup.

Philly is bringing in a gifted quarterback to the room, as Milton has a cannon for an arm. He had a great preseason with the Cowboys, but the team stunningly cut him, and he's been on the practice squad since.

What a great time for the Eagles to poach Milton off the practice squad, as that only hurts the Cowboys' quarterback room. They have former Eagles backup Sam Howell as QB2 behind Dak Prescott, but they have to hope their franchise quarterback doesn't get hurt because they no longer have Milton as insurance.

The Eagles do not have their own insurance policy with Milton behind McKee. If things go south with McKee in the next few weeks, they can at least turn to Milton for help.

Another great part of this is that the Eagles don't have to crawl back to Andy Dalton and re-sign him. They can lean on Milton to be the backup after Dalton decided the only throw of his Eagles career would be an interesting one. Knowing Eagles general manager Howie Roseman, though, don't be surprised if he doesn't close the door on signing Dalton to the practice squad.

Either way, Eagles fans have got to feel good about having Milton on the team and a reliable backup for McKee. This move won't save the season, but it will prevent it from being a complete disaster.
