E.J. Jenkins has a story to tell his friends and family about, and he has a souvenir for his trophy case.

It's been a while since we discussed E.J. Jenkins. All offseason, he was someone we were excited about. He made nice plays at practice. He showed some moxie during the preseason. We thought he might make some late push and earn a spot on the Philadelphia Eagles' roster as the third tight end, but he fell victim to the numbers game.

His current stint is actually his second in Philly. Before signing a futures/reserve deal (January 18, 2024), being waived during final roster cuts (August 27), and finding a job on the practice squad, he had previously signed with Philly's scout team on November 1, 2023 but was released 13 days later.

Let's just say the hard work finally paid off.

E.J. Jenkins' first NFL reception winds up with him reaching the end zone for his first career touchdown reception.

Philly's regular-season finale game vs. the New York Giants wasn't going to help them in terms of playoff positioning. They're locked as the NFC's second seed. They'll host at least one postseason game in the Wild Card Round at Lincoln Financial Field.

Several Birds will remember Week 18's game fondly though. Ainias Smith scored his first career TD during Philadelphia's first offensive drive. Not to be outdone, E.J. Jenkins found the end zone for his first career score.

Here's the kicker. He did so on his first career reception.

It's too early to tell how E.J.'s career will turn out. Maybe he'll develop. We'll continue to pull for him. In the meantime, he has a tale to tell his friends and family about. He also held onto the football. That gives something he can place in the trophy case if he determines he'd like to start building one.
