5 nightmare landing spots for Myles Garrett if the Eagles don't acquire him

Here are five potential trade destinations that could prove troublesome for the Eagles if Myles Garrett were to land with any of them.

Myles Garrett, the first overall draft pick in 2017, has garnered enough accolades in eight seasons with the Cleveland Browns to make him a future first-ballot Hall of Famer. A five-time Pro Bowler, five-time All-Pro, and 2023 Defensive Player of the Year, he only needs to accomplish one more thing in his dominant career. It would be nice if he could top things off with a Super Bowl ring to cement his legacy.

One might imagine that would be hard to do in Cleveland with the Browns. Perhaps that was the catalyst for his recent decision. Garrett issued a statement, one made public by NFL Insider Ian Rapoport. He has placed his current team on notice. He has asked to be traded. He would like to move on and continue his career elsewehere.

Garrett cited his desire to take home a Lombardi Trophy as the leading factor in his decision to leave Cleveland. In a nod to the fact that he knows he's destined to receive a gold jacket, Garrett stated the following.

"The goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton. It has always been to compete for and win a Super Bowl".

Here are the facts though. Garrett is under contract with the Browns for two more seasons. He may not have much of a say in whether or not he gets traded to a competitor, but teams with an all-or-nothing mindset for the next season may be willing to dish out serious capital to land this generational talent.

Several possible landing spots for Myles Garrett could create a nightmare scenario for the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Eagles already have the best defense in the league, but it is impossible to ignore all the obvious reasons that it would be wise to at least inquire about the asking price. There's also this to consider. If the Birds don't land Garrett, he can possibly wind up with an organization that would give Philly headaches because of his conclusion.

Washington Commanders

While imagining Garrett playing on a rival NFC East team is less than desirable, it's hard to imagine that he could make the New York Giants or Dallas Cowboys viable threats. The Washington Commanders, however, are a different animal. They already have a solid defensive front, and adding a player of Garrett's caliber could turn them from scrappy underdogs into a powerhouse.

A deep playoff run like the one we witnessed this year could be commonplace for the Commanders in the future. Add Myles Garrett to this mixture and Washington gets even stronger. Plus Philly faces him twice per season.

Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions are, without a doubt, one of the premier teams in the league, but they were plagued by injuries this season and faced some difficulty when they lost one of the league's best edge rushers in Aidan Hutchinson.

Imagine a defense that lines Hutchinson and Myles Garrett up on opposite sides of its formation. One word comes to mind. That word is 'unstoppable'.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers could have become on of the NFL's Cinderella stories had Jayden Daniels and the Commanders not pulled the rug from under them. The Bucs stood toe to toe with some of the NFL's best teams but were held back by inconsistent defensive play.

This was a letdown for a team that is usually talked about because of its defense. Tampa's defensive line has great depth.

Six players along the line recorded four or more sacks on the season, but they are seemingly missing that 'X-factor'. Acquiring Myles Garrett would provide them with one and, paired with Lavonte David, they might make the Bucs contenders again.

Kansas City Chiefs

This one feels like a no-brainer but has to be addressed nonetheless. If Garrett wants to play for a contender, the Kansas City Chiefs are the creme de la creme. Arming the defensive mastermind Steve Spagnuolo with Chris Jones and Myles Garrett is enough to make any fan of an opposing team shudder.

K.C. is a constant Super Bowl contender and will be as long as Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid are in town. Garrett could make an already dominant defense reach supernova.

San Francisco 49ers

Like the Lions, the San Francisco 49ers were ravaged by injuries albeit on the offensive side of the ball. The 49ers will be back. They have too much talent not to be. Do we even need to discuss how they'd look after adding Garrett?

Bottom line: Garrett winding up with any competitor not named Philadelphia is bad news for the Eagles. So, here's what we are thinking. The Birds should either sell out to try and land him, or they can sit idle and hope Browns GM Andrew Berry meant it when he said he had no interest in trading him.
