As all of you are aware, the NFL stands for National Football League and 'Not For Long'. Few businesses experience more turnover, but each franchise, the Philadelphia Eagles included, has the same goal... Get better...
Some teams, however, are just better at that job than others. There's a reason why the Pittsburgh Steelers have normally been good and the Cleveland Browns have often been so bad. Philly is one of the model franchises thanks to a great owner (Jeffrey Lurie) and phenomenal leadership (Howie Roseman).
They frustrate us sometimes, but you can bet your last dollar on something. You can do much worse than being a Birds fan, and that was true before two Super Bowl wins came in eight years. Ask the Carolina Panthers and Jacksonville Jaguars fan bases how they feel today.
Under Lurie and Roseman's leadership, we've seen some of the best football we have ever seen. Philly drafts well and constructs its team well. They use free agency and trades just as well as anyone year in and year out
Every player has an expiration date. You know what they say. One retires from the game or the game retires you.
Former Eagles still looking for their next homes
Philly's winning culture is a testament to the talent they find and develop, but sometimes, things don't end up as you hoped they would. Jalen Reagor just isn't that good, but somehow his career continues. He signed a one-year deal recently to run it back with the L.A. Chargers.
Yes, we admit it. We still pay attention to what Reagor is doing. Don't blame us. Blame Eagles wide receivers coach Aaron Moorehead. He's responsible for this.
You do know he's a huge reason why Jalen Reagor was here, right? He was teammates with his father Montae Reagor for four seasons as fellow Indianapolis Colts.
We're teasing of course when we say we blame Moorehead for the younger Reagor being an Eagle (sort of). That isn't our focus today. We aren't talking about former Eagles who have jobs. We're discussing the ones that don't.
Almost everyone on this list has demonstrated the skills to make it in the NFL. They just need another opportunity, a change of scenery, and/or some decent coaching. You can see what that did for Zack Baun and Saquon Barkley. Let's hope the guys mentioned here can find a new opportunity.
Carson Wentz
A little over a month ago, Carson Wentz was oh so close to winning a Super Bowl ring simply by being part of the team Philly was playing. Fast forward to the present. If the Kansas City Chiefs don't hang on to him, he'll be looking to join his fifth team in as many seasons.
Rasul Douglas
A former third-round draft choice of the Philadelphia Eagles during the 2017 NFL Draft, Rasul Douglas hopes his two-year stint with the Buffalo Bills won't write a finish to his career.
Devin White
Devin White was a low-risk, high-reward signing by the Eagles last season. In the end, he didn't yield any reward at all, and after his release, he signed a deal with the Houston Texans that has now ended.
His fall from grace continues.
Nelson Agholor
Nelson Agholor was formerly a first-round draft choice of the Chip Kelly era. His career produced more downs than ups, but he was an important piece of the Super Bowl 52 run.
Now, a journeyman, he has seen three rosters since leaving the nest after the 2019 season. Will he get another shot, or should he begin planning for the future?
Jordan Poyer
It's been forever by NFL standards since Philly drafted Jordan Poyer during the seventh round in 2013. His best seasons came in Buffalo eight or nine years later.
Now, he's hoping the phone rings, and despite some magical moments from him in 2021 and 2022, there's no chance he'd ever have a reunion and return to the City of Brotherly Love.
Zach Pascal
Who remembers this guy? Zach Pascal did the dirty work for Philly in 2022. He isn't on anyone's roster at the moment, but from what we remember, he's better than many give him credit for.
Kyzir White
Like Pascal. Kyzir White followed Jonathan Gannon to the Arizona Cardinals after Philly's run to Super Bowl 57. Like Pascal, White's two seasons didn't lead to much, and now, he's looking for another assignment.
K'Von Wallace
K'Von Wallace was expected to do for Philly's defense what C.J. Gardner-Johnson actually ended up doing (without all of the talking). That didn't materialize, and he has spent the 2023 and 2024 NFL seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, Tennessee Titans, and Seattle Seahawks.
Rodney McLeod
There isn't a Birds fan walking that doesn't LOVE Rodney McLeod, but he turns 35 years old on June 23rd. The opportunities aren't as plentiful when that happens as they once were.
Kamu Grugier-Hill
Everytime we look at the 'Flying Hawaiian', we think of that November night when Jake Elliott was injured and Kamu filled in to handle kickoff duty. Time flies. Grugier-Hill is a free agent now, and he's also 30. That's a bad combination for a guy who made most of his living on special teams.
Jalen Mills
Aaah.. The Green Goblin... A seventh-rounder who once carried the 'character concerns' label. You'd be hard-pressed to find a better person. We've often said we wouldn't be opposed to Jalen Mills' return, but it appears that ship has long sailed.
Andre Dillard
Once upon a time. Andre Dillard was supposed to be the heir apparent to Jason Peters and holding down the left tackle position for the Philadelphia Eagles. He was eventually beaten out for that job by our beloved Jordan Mailata, a former rugby player who had never played American football before 2018.
Think about that for a second. It's hard to find a stranger turn of events for a prospect drafted so highly.
Marlon Tuipulotu
Marlon Tuipulotu spent his first four seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. He spent his most recent watching those same Eagles beat his new team, the Kansas City Chiefs, in Super Bowl 59.
There have been times where we've wondered what he must be thinking, but there's no way in heck we're going to lose a ton of sleep over that.
Trey Sermon
Trey Sermon's single season in Philly brought with it love from many of Philly's fans. Things didn't end as we had hoped. Trey didn't play much, but we still don't have anything bad to say about him.
Andre Chachere
Now, we're cooking! Who remembers this guy? He only played in Philly for two seasons (2021 and 2022). Like Pascal and Kyzir White, he followed Jonathan Gannon to the desert.
He joins everyone else on this list in the free-agency pool. Hopefully, he receives a call from someone.
John Ross
We end this one with the speedster. John Ross took two seasons off from the NFL before returning to try and resurrect his career in Philly last season. He appeared in one game and caught one pass for six yards.
We haven't heard any discussion about him landing elsewhere, but we grew fond of him during his time in Midnight Green. We aren't going to lie. We're pulling for him, unless of course, he ends up in Dallas with the Cowboys or something.
