Sometimes, things don't work out as you think they should. The Philadelphia Eagles are a better team than the Washington Commanders. They should have blown them out in Week 16. You most certainly aren't talking us out of this. Once the first quarter ended, it seemed like they might. Instead, we were treated to a frustrating affair with an unhappy ending and several moments we'd like to forget.
Jalen Hurts was concussed. C.J. Gardner-Johnson was ejected. DeVonta Smith dropped a third-down pass attempt that probably would have ended the game had he caught it.
Washington scored 22 fourth-quarter points to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. We were left asking questions about what might have been.
Many of the Birds interviewed accepted responsibility. C.J. instead elected to express his frustration on social media and go live with an NSFW rant through Instagram.
Yeah... This isn't what we expected in terms of 'fallout'. We thought we'd be discussing Philly's 13th NFC East crown. Well, we finally got the reward we hoped for albeit seven days after we expected.
The Eagles bounce back in Week 17, and some of the 'goats' from Week 16 look more like G.O.A.T.s one week later. They're also seeing double.
Philly's 41-7 win over the hated Dallas Cowboys was the worst thumping they had put on their rivals in just one day over 16 years. You remember the 44-6 game, don't you? That one occurred on December 28, 2008. It's funny how things work out.
This win was wrapped in all of the trimmings. Philly wore the beloved Kelly Green jerseys. We'll say it again. THEY BEAT DALLAS. Those alone are late Christmas gifts.
A couple of the 'goats' from last week are heroes seven days later, and both are seeing double. DeVonta Smith caught two TD passes. C.J. Gardner-Johnson snagged two interceptions, one of which was a pick-six. And, since we're discussing double portions, how about the first two TD passes of Tanner McKee's career, and 2,000 yards rushing for Saquon Barkley?
Philly improves to 13-3, and a win next week gives them a franchise record-tying 14 wins. We'll see if they play their starters and give Saquon a shot at the single-season rushing record or if they are locked into the second seed and elect to rest their starters in the finale.
