Now, we see what A.J. Brown was talking about. Some of you may be unaware of what we're discussing if you aren't on social media often, but here's what happened. 11 hopped on Instagram shortly after helping the Philadelphia Eagles win their second Lombardi Trophy. He poured his heart out, and as is often the case, Philly sports fans and a radio station that shall remain nameless went bananas in the aftermath.
Frankly, we get what A.J. was saying. In some ways, the journey, grind, and dominating in competition is more satisfying than the result of winning.
Look at us. Most of us agree with that because here we are wishing there was another game to play on Sunday.
Since there isn't, we can do the next best thing. We can throw on our imaginary general manager hats and pretend we're Howie Roseman.
That brings us to Pro Bowler and First-Team All-Pro Zack Baun.
Eagles news: Ranking the 5 most important decisions the Eagles must make during free agency
Here's what we have read about what a potential Zack Baun extension might look like.
Ask around or take a poll. Most of the Philly media and fans all say the same thing. Once the construction of the 2025 Eagles roster begins, priority number one is getting Zack Baun extended.
There's a lot at play here. Howie Roseman rarely pays linebackers, but then again, once upon a time, he never paid running backs either. Decisions must also be made about possible extensions for 17 other Birds including Josh Sweat, Milton Williams, Mekhi Becton, and Isaiah Rodgers.
Some of our favorite financial experts when it comes to this type of thing reside at Spotrac. They recently calculated his market value as follows:
A two-year extension worth $19.4 million and an average salary of $9.7 million. That would rank 20th among all outside linebackers (though Zack has played the middle linebacker position as of late. We'll be waiting to see what happens.
Now again, we feel a little nervous. In looking at Philly's list, one would think, again, that Baun is priority number one. Keeping him on this roster is in the team's best interest, but one must also consider a few other things.
Though Baun had a better season and has become a better player, Philly, when faced with a similar decision a couple of years ago, elected against giving $5 million or more to T.J. Edwards (that's what he earned in Chicago with the Bears).
There's only so much money to go around. Will Philly reward Baun with a sizable extension? We feel he has earned it. We'll all be watching this one closely.
