Howie Roseman can't afford testing fate on a massive Eagles free agency risk

Don't do it Howie!

The Philadelphia Eagles still need to get some help at edge rusher after losing out on Jaelan Phillips in free agency.

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman went with Arnold Ebiketie to be the replacement for Phillips in the rotation for the time being. While Ebiketie can put pressure on the quarterback, he doesn't produce the sack numbers the defense needs entering the 2026 season.

Philly still has a good amount of cap space to go after another edge rusher in free agency or wait until the 2026 NFL Draft to add one. There is still an option available, but they should avoid it at all costs.

Eagles could still get Haason Reddick, but they shouldn't

Eagles fans might remember Reddick for his incredible two-year run with the team in 2022 and 2023, where he racked up 27 sacks and two Pro Bowl selections with the team. Then, Roseman was not willing to pay Reddick as one of the highest-paid edge rushers in the NFL, so he traded him to the New York Jets.

Since then, Reddick has struggled mightily with just 3.5 sacks in two years with the Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Now he's a free agent and looking for a new home to rush the passer at, ranking 20th on ESPN's best free agents available.

The temptation might be there for the Eagles to give Reddick a call and give him a second chance to prove that he can still be an elite pass rusher in the NFL. Well, at 31 and production going down, it doesn't make sense for Philly to take that kind of risk to bring him in.

Jalyx Hunt is coming off a career season in which he led the Eagles in sacks (six) and interceptions (three), becoming the only player in franchise history to do so. Nolan Smith still has the potential to be great if it hadn't been for his triceps injury last year.

If the Eagles were wise, they would stick with who they have and move forward with them. Reddick was great back in the day, but his dominant days are over.
