A lot has been said about the Philadelphia Eagles' handling of the current quarterback situation heading into the 2026 season.
Andy Dalton and Tanner McKee have faced heavy criticism for their performance during training camp and the preseason. The Eagles then decided to keep all four quarterbacks on the active roster, frustrating many fans.
Eagles general manager Howie Roseman and the coaching staff have faced questions regarding the backup quarterback situation. It appears as though Roseman has had enough of it.

While appearing on SportsRadio 94 WIP, Roseman was again asked about the backup quarterback situation after already addressing it in his press conference earlier in the week. This time, Roseman came prepared with some extra material.
"Yeah, again, anything that goes into preparing for our opponents, what's going on, you know, we'll keep close to the vest," Roseman said. "You know, it's funny, I had anticipated questions on the backup quarterback, so I had our crack VP of communications, PR, Bob Lang, this morning. And I said, 'I feel a little bit of a sense of déjà vu.' I feel that here. Can you tell me some of the things that were written in 2017 about Nick Foles? Because I remember Nick Foles and his August. And some of the questions, when we cut the roster was like, you're gonna cut Nick Foles? And I think, you know, the other part of this, which, you know, some of those— we got those receipts, you know? And not only in 2017, but back in 2018, again, Nick Foles and his preseason under scrutiny. There's a statue in front of our stadium, and it is Nick Foles, by the way."
Roseman certainly came out firing with his comparison to Foles. Critics criticized Foles, especially when he returned to the Eagles before his first Super Bowl title, because he wasn't the best in the regular season. Foles always performed well in the postseason, though, which helped the Eagles.
This situation is a bit different, though. Dalton and McKee struggled in the preseason...against backups and third-stringers. Sure, you could chalk it up to playing in a new scheme run by Sean Mannion, but they simply weren't good enough.
Philly might have made the right decision at the end of the day by carrying four quarterbacks since none of them really stood out. Dalton and McKee are professionals, so they should be able to rebound from the tough start to 2026.
Credit should be given to Roseman, though, for firing back at the criticism of the quarterbacks. Roseman clearly has been hearing it from everyone and is ready to stand up for his decision. The man has won two Super Bowls, though, so he should get the benefit of the doubt.

Ultimately, the Eagles should be fine at quarterback, so we need to trust the play out.
