Outside of the offensive coordinator coaching search, the one headline that dominated the news for the Philadelphia Eagles is what they are going to do with star wide receiver A.J. Brown.
After a season that had so much drama surrounding Brown with cryptic tweets and expressing public frustration, the wide receiver ended up having the worst statistical season of his Eagles career with 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns. It was the first time since being in Philly starting in 2022 that he did not lead the team in receiving yards and was not selected to the Pro Bowl or All-Pro team.
Reports came out that Brown asked to be traded multiple times throughout the season, but since the offseason, it has seemed as though the receiver is open to returning in 2026. The real question is has the Eagles changed their tone over the last month about the possibility of trading Brown?
Howie Roseman speaks out on a potential trade with A.J. Brown
Before the Eagles departed for the NFL Combine, general manager Howie Roseman spoke with the media in an extended roundtable, during which multiple topics were discussed. Of course, the main topic was about Brown and the trade rumors as Roseman spoke about Brown individually.
“It’s really hard to find great players,” Roseman said via The Athletic's Brooks Kubena. “I think A.J. is a great player. I think from my perspective, we’re looking to improve in all areas, and you don’t do that by subtracting.”
Roseman made a draft-day trade with the Tennessee Titans in 2022 to acquire Brown for the Eagles' first-round pick. That move has since paid off big time for Philly as they made two Super Bowls and won one with Brown as their number one receiver. Roseman knew exactly what he was doing with that trade.
“I think that any trade that we’ve made, we’ve done because we felt it was the right thing to do for the Philadelphia Eagles. I can’t remember any time that I’ve done anything that when I did it, I didn’t think was in the best interest of the team. It’s always going to be about the team. It’s always going to be about our players. If I start doing things that are about individuals, as opposed to the team, I’m not doing my job.”
While Roseman was speaking highly of Brown, there was the elephant in the room: whether the Eagles would listen to offers for Brown in a trade. This was really the first time where Roseman didn't exactly 100% shoot it down.
“We’re always listening.”
“I don’t think you can go into any conversation with anyone and just shoot things down without hearing what they have to say — because you never know,” Roseman said. “You never know on any player. If someone’s going to give you something you didn’t anticipate and you won’t even have the conversation, I don’t think you’re necessarily doing your job, really servicing the team that you’re with.”
