The rich just keep on getting richer for Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman as he continues to add depth and talent to the roster.

This time around, Roseman turns to the undrafted free agent market, adding another defensive lineman to the defense. NBC Sports Philadelphia's Ryan Fowler reported that the Eagles have signed rookie defensive tackle Zion Wilson.

In college, Wilson started as an offensive lineman before converting to the defensive line. He played five seasons at East Carolina, and last year he racked up 42 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, seven sacks, and one pass deflection. Wilson tried to get eligibility to play at Virginia in 2026, but was unsuccessful and decided to play his hand in the NFL.

Eagles add more depth on defensive line with Zion Wilson

Wilson has good size at 6-foot-3 and 316 pounds, as his transition from offensive line to defensive line seemed to have gone smoothly. Many thought that if his transfer to Virginia had been successful and he had another season of college football, he would have been drafted into the NFL.

Instead, Wilson now faces a rough battle to make the Eagles' 53-man roster after missing part of OTAs and coming in late. It doesn't help that the backup jobs at defensive tackle are going to be tough for him to make.

Outside of the usual suspects with Jordan Davis, Jalen Carter, and Moro Ojomo, the Eagles are hoping for a giant leap from Ty Robinson in Year 2. Philly also has Uar Bernard, Byron Young, Gabe Hall, and Ta'Quon Graham competing for spots.

Realistically, Wilson is probably not going to make the final roster, but he does make for an intriguing prospect for the practice squad as he could use another year of development. This could end up being a good risk for the Eagles to make if defensive line coach Clint Hurtt can develop Wilson the right way.
