The talk of the Philadelphia Eagles-Dallas Cowboys game on Thursday was not the close finish or the weather delay. All the attention was on Eagles defensive lineman Jalen Carter.

After the opening kickoff, Carter was ejected from the game after spitting at Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. This was a massive mistake that would hurt the Eagles, but ultimately did not cost them the game as they squeaked out a 24-20 win over Dallas.

As the game rolled on and even afterwards, details and videos were emerging showing the whole situation. After gathering all the details, though, it really didn't do much in favor of Carter.

What happened that Carter felt he needed to spit at Prescott in the Eagles-Cowboys game?

It started after the kickoff and the Cowboys' return. Eagles fullback Ben VanSumeren injured his knee on the play and was being checked out by the medical staff.

This caused a small pause in the game with the Cowboys' offense and the Eagles' defense being on the field. At this point, when Carter was standing around, Prescott spat on the ground, but it was close enough to Carter that he felt it was intended for him.

Prescott and Carter started exchanging words when Carter "retaliated" with a spit of his own. The referees saw that and threw the flag with the ejection called.

After the game, Prescott explained that his spitting was just a regular part of what he does and how it wasn't for Carter.

While speaking with the press in the locker room, Carter was remorseful and owned up to his mistake.

"It was a mistake that happened on my side. Just won't happen again. I feel bad for just my teammates and the fans out there. I'm doing it for them and I'm doing it for my family also, but fans, they showed the most love."

The full story doesn't make Carter look good by any stretch of the imagination, but it happened, it's been discussed, and hopefully everyone can move on. Eagles fans know the NFL won't move on right away, as there could be a fine or some disciplinary action taken for what he did.

If it ends up being a suspension, that's when the conversation can grow into something bigger than it is now, but the important part is the Eagles are 1-0 and can address the undisciplined actions of Carter behind closed doors.
