Jalen Hurts climbs up NFL all-time list in Eagles win over Giants

Philadelphia Eagles star quarterback Jalen Hurts made some history in Philly's 28-3 victory over the New York Giants in Week 7 of the 2024 NFL season.

Hurts entered the game against New York tied with San Francisco 49ers legend Steve Young for fifth on the NFL's all-time list of most career rushing touchdowns for a quarterback with 43. With two touchdowns on the ground against New York, Hurts moved past Young and Otto Graham (44) and into sole possession of third place on the list.

Now, the only quarterbacks in NFL history who have more rushing touchdowns than Hurts are Carolina Panthers legend Cam Newton (75) and current Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen (56 and counting). There's a good chance that when all is said and done, Allen and Hurts will hold the top two spots on the list as long as they can remain healthy.

Many detractors will point to the fact that many of Hurts' rushing touchdowns have come on Philly's famed "tush push," which is true. But, the scores count the same whether they come at the end of a 30-yard run or a run of just a few feet. Plus, Hurts' strength is the main reason that the play has been so successful for Philly over the years.

Hurts also added to his own record of most games with multiple rushing touchdowns for a quarterback in the game against the Giants. He now has 13 such games under his belt.

Perhaps equally as important as his two rushing touchdowns against the Giants was the fact that Hurts didn't have a single turnover for the second consecutive week. Turnovers have become somewhat of an Achilles heel for Hurts as of late, and it's probably not a complete coincidence that the Eagles have won these past two turnover-free games from Hurts. Now, they're just going to continue trying to move in the right direction.

"Everybody knows what kind of ball we're capable of playing," Hurts said after the win over the Giants. "That's why we're held to that standard [by] everyone. So that reality is, you just need to continue to climb."

Philadelphia's next test will come in Week 8 in Cincinnati against a Bengals team that is also riding a two-game winning streak. If Hurts can continue to play like he has over the past couple weeks, the Eagles should have a good opportunity to walk away with a third consecutive win.
