After finding a ton of success under center in the 28-22 win over the Minnesota Vikings in Week 7, the Philadelphia Eagles wanted to make sure they continued that success and more against the New York Giants in Week 8.
The only thing that really changed with the under-center strategy is that the rushing attack finally got rolling in a big way. Saquon Barkley and Tank Bigsby ran for over 100 yards each against the Giants. Philly finished with 276 yards on the ground as the Eagles took out the Giants 38-20.
Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is one of the catalysts on the team working under center, as he's the one taking the snaps from center. Hurts also had a nice game as he completed 75% of his passes for 179 yards and a season-high four touchdowns.
How Hurts feels about a second game of multiple snaps under center
After the impressive win, Hurts spoke with the media about the offensive explosion and what led to it. One aspect was talking about playing under center, and Hurts went into detail about how it has worked for the offense.
“I think when you have more variety and you have different variations of what you do, you definitely can build off of that. I think the best of them usually are able to attack people in different ways, and they can pick their poison with that. I do think that element of what we do, it has always done something for us. We just want to continue to build off of that. I enjoy being under center and being able to complement things within our run game and find a flow, but ultimately, I think it's about finding a flow and what you do. It's not necessarily that you stick a guy under the center, or you're playing from the shotgun, or you're in a pistol. It's about what you’re doing when you're under center. How we’re leveraging what we do. How we’re leveraging the guys. What spots are we putting guys in when we're in these different positions? We just want to continue to build off of it. Obviously, big time for us as always, going into the bye week and being able to assess that and have a reset.”

Another new wrinkle Eagles offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo added to the offense was bringing in Fred Johnson as a sixth offensive lineman or another tight end to get the running game going when they were under center. That move paid off greatly, with Barkley and Bigsby able to break out multiple long runs.

Philly has found something that is working and should stick with it the rest of the season after the bye week.
