Already an absolute wrecking ball on special teams, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. appears poised to take his game to a new level entering his third season as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles.
Recent reports suggest the son of famed former Eagles linebacker Jeremiah Trotter is on the cusp of big things, not only in the special teams phase, but on the defensive side of the ball as well. Brandon Lee Gowton of Bleeding Green Nation observed his elite awareness and play recognition in recent OTAs' action, traits that have long been calling cards of the Trotter family.
"Jeremiah Trotter Jr. always looks like he knows exactly what the offense is running. Great anticipation."
Eagles' third-year backer continues to move up the pecking order
Trotter has been patiently waiting in the wings, striving for significant defensive snaps since arriving by way of his fifth-round selection in the 2024 NFL draft.
And while competition at the linebacker position has been stacked during his time in Philadelphia, his aspirations of making more of an impact could be close to becoming a reality.
The departure of Nakobe Dean leaves Trotter one step closer to his quest. Second-year man Jihaad Campbell is slotted next to veteran Zack Baun inside for starting duties, while Trotter has certainly shown he is capable of dropping the hammer himself. A 12-tackle performance in the final regular season game last season - one in which he also racked up three pressures, two quarterback hits, and one tackle for loss - illustrated just how capable Trotter is when it comes to holding down the fort inside.
As the former Clemson standout continues to showcase his anticipation in practices, fans should also remain mindful of Baun's contract status. It's been reworked to provide flexibility down the road, and it's possible that Campbell and Trotter could emerge as the starting duo in the middle.

As it stands, he's a force on special teams and a key backup who continues to bring it every single day. And before long, the son of the Axe Man might battle his way into the starting unit.
