Haters are going to hate, which is basically what Eagles offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo stated during his media availability when asked about the "Tush Push".

Patullo stated, "Some games they call it close, some games they don’t. Defense is always aligned offsides anyways so …” if he was worried about the added discussion and attention regarding the NFL's most controversial play.

Most have failed to stop the Tush Push in Philly

Since its introduction to the NFL, the "Tush Push" has essentially been a cheat code for the Eagles' offense, changing the way short-yardage plays have been conducted. Originating in 2020, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni (then offensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts) began utilizing backup Quarterback Jacoby Brissett as a short-yardage option over starting quarterback Phillip Rivers. When the Eagles hired Sirianni, he found that Jalen Hurts was the perfect quarterback to perfect his QB sneak.

According to CBS Sports, the Eagles were 39-of-48 (81%) on Tush Push plays in 2024, earning either a first down or a touchdown when running the short-yardage sneak in 2024. In 2023, the Eagles had a success rate of 88% in Jason Kelce's final season with the team. While other teams have tried to mimic the success of the Eagles, according to multiple reports, only the Bills have replicated the success of the "Tush Push," with Josh Allen serving as the key cog in their success.

In Week 2, the "Tush Push" has come under scrutiny with the Eagles' offensive line lining up in the neutral zone, in addition to possible false starts from their offensive guards. While the play will always be under constant criticism until NFL defenses come up with a countermeasure, the play will continue to be put under a microscope with the Eagles continuing their success.

While Patullo didn't invent the "Tush Push," he's definitely the benefactor of it. Two out of the last three Eagles offensive coordinators have gone on to earn head coaching jobs, with Patullo possibly having his eyes set on continuing that trend.
