Last offseason, the Philadelphia Eagles faced a massive dilemma on what to do with defensive tackle Milton Williams after having a great season and becoming a free agent.

In his final season with the Birds, Williams racked up 24 tackles, 12 pressures, 10 quarterback hits, seven tackles for loss, five sacks, one pass deflection, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 17 games. He really made his money in the postseason as he collected eight pressures, seven tackles, two quarterback hits, two tackles for loss, two sacks, two pass deflections, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in four contests.

During the offseason, the Eagles decided not to pay Williams, and he instead signed with the New England Patriots. He landed a massive four-year, $104 million contract with $63 million guaranteed. Every Eagles fan kind of knew after that moment why general manager Howie Roseman made the decision he did.

Milton Williams briefly talked about last offseason with Eagles

As players at the Super Bowl met with the media, Williams was asked about the conversations he and the Eagles had last offseason and whether they made any offer to him. Williams kept his answer short.

"Didn't really get an offer...nothing," Williams said via PHLY. "Didn't really hear anything."

It worked out pretty well for Williams, as he helped the Patriots reach the Super Bowl despite missing five games during the regular season. He had a strong postseason with five tackles, four pressures, four quarterback hits, two tackles for loss, and two sacks in three games.

Roseman and the Eagles came out of it pretty well themselves, as they didn't have to give away $104 million and got great production from their defensive tackle position. Guys like Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, and Moro Ojomo did just fine without Williams, as they are considered one of the best defensive tackle rooms in the NFL.

Eagles fans can be happy for Williams as he is having a lot of success in New England, but Roseman 100% made the right call in not bringing him back. While the 2025 season was not successful, Philly still has a bright future on the defensive line.
