The Philadelphia Eagles had a much-talked-about search for a new offensive coordinator after the team moved on from Kevin Patullo. Head coach Nick Sirianni had plenty of big names in his search, such as Brian Daboll and Mike McDaniel, who both took opportunities elsewhere. Sirianni and the Eagles ultimately landed on Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach Sean Mannion. It was a bit surprising, since Mannion first began coaching in 2024.
Given the disaster that Patullo was as the offensive coordinator, Eagles fans may give him a chance. So far, Mannion has the endorsement of one of the Eagles' most important offensive players — the quarterback.
During a reading event at a local school for his new book, "Better Than a Touchdown, quarterback Jalen Hurts was asked by The Athletic reporter Zach Berman about the hiring of Mannion. Hurts called Mannion "amazing" and said that he's excited for what he can do for the offense.
"He’s amazing. I’m excited for what’s to come. Obviously, things have been limited given the timing of everything," said Hurts, h/t Berman.
Jalen Hurts is already a fan of new OC Sean Mannion
While Hurts says that his discussions with Mannion have been limited, he does like what he's hearing from his new coach. That is welcoming news, especially as the Eagles try to put last season behind them.
Despite all the talent the Eagles had on offense last season, they averaged just 311.2 yards per game (ninth-lowest in the NFL) and 22.3 points per game (14th-lowest). It was astounding, considering that it was virtually the exact same roster that won the Super Bowl the season prior. One of the more pivotal points was the transition from Kellen Moore, who left to take the New Orleans Saints' head-coaching gig, to Patullo. The lack of success on offense played a huge role in the Eagles' elimination in the Wild Card Round against the San Francisco 49ers.
That's not to say that the Mannion hire isn't a gamble. Mannion may have spent nine years as a quarterback, but he has only been a coach for two years. His first major gig came just last year as the Packers' quarterbacks coach. That season, Jordan Love threw for 3,381 yards, 23 touchdowns, and six interceptions on a 66.3 completion percentage.

We'll see how Hurts can do in this new offense being implemented by Mannion. There are questions regarding who will be on the offense, with A.J. Brown being involved in never-ending trade rumors and tight end Dallas Goedert's future with the team coming into question. But as of now, Hurts is a fan of his new offensive coordinator.
