NFL Power Rankings Roundup: The Eagles still aren't impressing the experts

We spanned the globe (or, in this case the internet) to gauge what the experts think about the Eagles.

Okay, what's going on? Maybe you can help us out because we're lost. This Philadelphia Eagles team, at the top of the depth chart, still houses many players from the Super Bowl roster in February 2023. Why are we so stressed? Why is this team in dogfights with the Cleveland Browns? Why is this offense inept? Why do the wins even feel like losses?

We were so happy not even eight months ago. Sure, Haason Reddick was gone, but we added Saquon Barkley and two of the top five defensive backs in the 2024 NFL Draft. Vic Fangio and Kellen Moore were added as coordinators.

So, we ask again. Why is this team barely surviving the Cleveland Browns AT HOME? Frankly, we don't know what to say., so let's see what the experts are writing. Maybe they can make heads or tails of this.

Here's a Week 7 NFL Power Rankings roundup as the Giants are ahead on the horizon.

At the close of the 2022-23 NFL season, this team was the NFC's representative in the Super Bowl. We know you are aware of that, but let that settle in for a moment.

How does Jalen Hurts go from trading jabs with Patrick Mahomes to seemingly being more confused now? How has this team regressed, and how have they done so this quicky?

They look good on paper, but games aren't played on paper. We realize that. There is hope though. This team is talented enough to turn this around.

That may not bring you solace now, but it will. We hope. In the meantime, here's what the experts are saying in their recent NFL Power Rankings.

Philly ranks 12th on NFL.com

Lead NFL.com draft writer Eric Edholm pieced together another Week 7 Power Ranking. Philly lands at 12, one spot lower than last week.

Here's some of the explanation:

How much did we really learn from Sunday’s win over the Browns? We certainly learned that A.J. Brown makes a difference, catching six balls for 116 yards and a touchdown in his return to the field.

There were also nice contributions from Grant Calcaterra, subbing for an injured Dallas Goedert, and Cooper DeJean, the rookie DB who took Avonte Maddox’s nickel spot Sunday and seemed to thrive in the role.

The Eagles still struggled to put away a limited Browns team in Philly, needing a few Cleveland penalties and a late deep pass to Brown to close it out. They’re 3-2 now but have been outscored on the season, largely thanks to opponents’ 23-0 first-quarter scoring advantage...

Eagles land at 13 vis Sports Illustrated.

Our buddies at Sports Illustrated rank Philly 13th ahead of Week 7's action. That's a drop from their ranking of 12th ahead of Week 6's slate of games. Conor Orr provides the commentary.

More thoughts on the Eagles here specifically. I don’t know what to make of this offense if I’m being honest. Everyone had this sigh of relief when A.J. Brown caught a deep ball followed by the inevitable why the hell aren’t we doing this more?

Nick Sirianni is in a difficult spot with a quarterback who doesn’t seem to be seeing it, or an offense that can’t seem to show Jalen Hurts the field like Shane Steichen could. Whatever it is, I’m not sure what Sirianni can do to win."

Pro Football Focus still ranks the Eagles in the top ten.

PFF places Philly at ten. That's the highest ranking we have seen for Philly this week unless we're missing something or skimmed too quickly,

They rank one spot ahead of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who blew them out in Week 4. Maybe they blame injuries? Here's what Thomas Valentine offers. He's the writer of this one.

Nick Sirianni talking smack to Eagles fans after the Week 6 win against the Browns won’t do him any favors, but getting back in the win column will. The Eagles held on to beat the Browns 20-16 following their bye week and now take on the Giants on the road in Week 7. Jordan Mailata has an 88.4 overall grade, fourth among tackles.

Final thoughts: We asked for a blowout win over the Browns. We weren't given one. The theory was that would convince us this team was playing up to standard.

Now, there are more questions. Why is this team only four points better than the Browns in a home game? Who knows? Maybe throttling the New York Giants in Saquon Barkley's 'revenge game' will settle us?

It's beginning to feel like this is going to be a long season.
