The Philadelphia Eagles traded C.J. Gardner-Johnson to the Houston Texans in the offseason, and his time with the Texans ended after just three games. The Texans have started the year at 0-3, and naturally, Gardner-Johnson wasn't loving his time there, given the slow start.
Gardner-Johnson reportedly was irritated with his new team and had requested a trade. The Texans didn't fully grant him his wish but did opt to release him on Tuesday, making the former Eagles safety a free agent.
Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni was asked about his squad potentially bringing CJGJ back for a third time. His response pretty much summed up what everyone was already thinking by complimenting the heck out of his current safety room.
"I'm really excited about the [safety] room we have. I think they've done a really nice job to date. Got a good young player in Andrew Mukuba, who continues to get better. I think having Reed [Blankenship] next to him is helping him get better. And just as how Reed got better having Marcus Epps in the building, and Reed's said that, I've said that in here before about Marcus Epps. So, just really excited about that room. Sydney [Brown]'s doing a really good job. Doing a good job on special teams and doing some work on defense as well. I'm really excited about that group and pleased with that group."
Nick Sirianni doesn't seem the least bit interested in an Eagles reunion with C.J. Gardner-Johnson
Sirianni chose to answer the question by praising the safeties he already has on his roster. That being said, that's only one of many reasons he could have given when asked about reuniting with Gardner-Johnson, who did not take kindly to being traded by Philadelphia. Gardner-Johnson has always had a reputation for being a hot head in the locker room, and that's the main reason he's no longer in Houston.

With the Eagles clearly being set up well in the safety room paired with Gardner-Johnson previously calling out Howie Roseman and the Eagles after being traded, why would this team want to bring him back? Sure he's talented but is he really worth the headache? The answer appears to be a resounding no and that should be a-okay with everyone in Philadelphia.
