Good old Howie Roseman did it again with another great trade for the Philadelphia Eagles on draft weekend.
The Eagles sent a 2026 third-round pick and a 2027 third-round pick to the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for edge rusher Jonathan Greenard and a seventh-round pick. Roseman was asked about why the Eagles had made the trade, and for the long-time general manager, it was pretty simple.
"It really made sense for where we are as a football team to acquire this player," Roseman said via The Athletic's Zach Berman.

There's really no overthinking it: Roseman is right about it making sense for the football team. While it feels like way too simple and vague an answer, the move itself really should say all Eagles fans needed to know about why it was made.
Jaelan Phillips bolted in free agency to sign his four-year, $120 million contract with the Carolina Panthers. The Eagles needed to replace him, so it was an easy decision to bring in another great edge rusher who was just in the Pro Bowl two seasons ago.
Philly tried to roll with just Nolan Smith Jr. and Jalyx Hunt as the starters with a lot of veteran backups earlier in the season. That turned out to be a nightmare as the Eagles were one of the worst pass-rushing units in the NFL before they traded for Phillips, and it completely shifted the whole season for the Birds.

This was a win-win situation for the Eagles, as they got the edge rusher they needed while also saving $5 million per year on Greenard's four-year, $100 million contract extension, which he signed with them after the trade. Roseman made the deal he needed to, and with this football team needing a player like Greenard, fans have waited about a month to finally see it happen.
