Only 1 day on Eagles' 53-man roster and former fifth-round pick is already cut

That was quick.

Just because a player makes the 53-man roster, it doesn't mean they are completely safe. One Philadelphia Eagles player is learning that lesson the hard way.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the Eagles have waived offensive lineman Trevor Keegan. The Eagles selected Keegan in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, as he appeared in just one game.

Eagles make the move some originally thought was going to happen

Keegan making the 53-man roster was kind of a surprise. He had a decent showing last year, but seemed to have regressed during training camp and the preseason this season. He struggled in the preseason finale against the New York Jets, allowing a sack in the first half.

It should be noted that if Keegan makes it past waivers, he should be an easy candidate to make the practice squad. The team drafted him and has been developing him so it would make sense to bring him back.

The Eagles were originally holding onto 11 offensive linemen on the team. With this, bringing them down to 10, they will be able to make an addition to the roster, potentially at edge rusher or elsewhere. Eagles general manager Howie Roseman mentioned in his press conference on Tuesday that he was looking at bringing back Patrick Johnson either to the 53-man roster or the practice squad.

This could also be seen as good news for starting left guard Landon Dickerson, who is recovering from the meniscus injury he suffered during training camp. It might not necessarily mean Dickerson will hit the practice field right away, but it's encouraging enough for the Eagles to be comfortable with nine healthy linemen.

The next part of his equation is what Roseman will do next. Bring back a player he just cut or could he have a bigger deal up his sleeve?
