The Philadelphia Eagles are desperate to get some help at edge rusher after losing Jaelan Phillips to the Carolina Panthers in free agency.
While they did sign former Atlanta Falcons edge rusher Arnold Ebiketie, it is not enough to make fans confident that he, along with Nolan Smith Jr. and Jalyx Hunt, can get the job done off the edge. The Athletic's Alec Lewis looked at his team's situation with Minnesota Vikings edge rusher Jonathan Greenard and whether he could be traded to the Eagles, as the Eagles are one of two teams that would make sense.
"Philadelphia, meanwhile, has plenty of draft picks. As usual, the Eagles got multiple compensatory picks in the 2026 draft: an extra third-, fourth- and fifth-rounder. They, too, have a sizable amount of cap space for the next two seasons. The Eagles have a deeper stable of edge rushers than Indianapolis, with Nolan Smith, Jalyx Hunt and Arnold Ebiketie. However, none of them possesses the game-changing pass-rush potential of Greenard."
Eagles still in the running for Jonathan Greenard
Greenard is coming off a disappointing season, marked by injuries and yielding only three sacks for the Vikings. In 2024, he had 22 quarterback hits and 12 sacks, earning him a Pro Bowl berth for the first time in his career.
The Eagles have been attached to trade rumors for Greenard for almost a month now, as the Vikings look to offload his $19 million per year contract, while the Eagles look for a proper replacement for Phillips. Minnesota is seeking a Day 2 pick for Greenard, which is where the holdup might be occurring for the moment.
It feels like a good deal, but the Eagles still have to resolve the A.J. Brown situation and decide whether to trade him away. At the same time, the options in free agency are not the best, and Greenard would be the best player for the Eagles to add off the edge.

Lewis mentioned there is no timeline for a potential Greenard trade, so the Eagles have time to assess their options before deciding whether to pursue one. Eagles general manager Howie Roseman will be smart about this situation and make sure they are in the best position to win if they decide Greenard can help the team now without hurting their cap situation.
