The City of Brotherly Love doesn't always feel that way, but sometimes when it comes to the Philadelphia Eagles, 2026 might back up that claim.
Training camp is two weeks away, and there is a lot of uncertainty mixed with excitement about the roster. There are many talented players on the roster, and it will feature more position battles than fans have seen in years.
At the same time, there is a level of stress to this season that can't be measured by the players and coaches. Yes, jobs are on the line, but there might be more jobs and futures up in the air than in the past.
New pressure in training camp should be embraced by Eagles and the fan base
A lot of the pressure and tension entering training camp comes from what happened last season, which left everyone disappointed. Coming off an incredible Super Bowl title run, the Eagles finished a drama-filled 2025 season with an 11-6 record and won the NFC East for the second straight year, but were eliminated by the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Wild Card.
Now there are a lot more uncertain futures with players on the team. Quarterback Jalen Hurts might be the biggest question mark after the team didn't give him an extension and reports of the franchise starting to have doubts about him.
Two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jalen Carter has some concerns about whether he will be on the team, since he was ejected from one game last year for spitting, and he dealt with multiple injuries. While Eagles reporters still expect a contract extension before training camp, if one isn't agreed upon, it opens the door to a potential trade despite his fifth-year option being picked up in the offseason.
Outside of individual player questions, position battles are all over this roster, with the biggest one at safety. Marcus Epps seems to have the upper hand, but Michael Carter II and others will be competing for the job.
There are plenty of others like the backup quarterback job, offensive line depth, multiple wide receiver spots, and starting edge rusher. Each of them is so critical to the 2026 season for the coaching staff; if they don't make the right decisions, it could be the end of the line for most of them, including the head coach, Nick Sirianni.
Philly cannot repeat what they did last year, as winning is the only option at this point. Anything less than a playoff appearance could mean the end of the line for many people, but that's a good thing.

The Eagles needed that swift kick in the rear to get things going on the roster and the coaching staff, since this team is too good just to settle for a Wild Card appearance. More is needed and expected from a franchise that has been the model of success over the last 25 years.
