One of the toughest emotional losses for the Philadelphia Eagles fan base was seeing Reed Blankenship walk in free agency.

Blankenship ended up signing a three-year, $24.75 million contract with the Houston Texans after four seasons with the Eagles. He was an undrafted free agent in 2022 before becoming a full-time starter in 2023.

Now that Blankenship is out of Philly, that leaves a massive hole on the roster at safety, with Andrew Mukuba being the lone starter there. There is one name that continues to be brought up as a solid replacement option in free agency, and it comes from the Windy City.

Eagles might have a perfect target to replace at safety

Chicago Bears safety Jaquan Brisker enters free agency after the team selected him in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Brisker was a Day 1 starter for the Bears, as he has started 52 career games in Chicago.

Over his career, Brisker has racked up 342 tackles, 21 pass deflections, 12 tackles for loss, 11 quarterback hits, seven sacks, four interceptions, four forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. Two of his four years in the NFL have seen Brisker rack up over 100 tackles in a season.

Brisker is a playmaker who can create turnovers on a dime and is a hard hitter in the secondary. The issue with him has been inconsistent coverage, and he has had some injury concerns stemming from his 2024 concussion, which cost him 12 games.

This would be a good option for the Eagles as Brisker is only 26 and still has plenty of years ahead of him. He is priced at an estimated $11.1 million per year, but the longer he is on the market, the lower that price could become.

Pairing Brisker with Mukuba could be a duo idea in the secondary. With missing out on players like Phillips, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman would be smart to give Brisker a chance.
