The Philadelphia Eagles are going to need to make some moves this offseason to create as much cap space as possible to sign players, but general manager Howie Roseman doesn't have much room to really do any restructuring of deals.

That leaves Roseman's only decision: cut some players on the roster, with one defender who has been brought up often fitting that description: Eagles defensive tackle Byron Young. GMenHQ site editor Matt Sidney wrote an article on potential cap casualties the New York Giants should focus on for all 32 NFL teams, and he said the Giants might be interested in Young if he becomes available.

"Maybe it’s buying a little too much into Milton Williams’ success in New England and assuming a completely different player with a similar build would produce the same results in a new environment. But Young feels like the kind of low-risk, high-reward signing that could help take some pressure off Dexy Sexy."

Byron Young a potential target for Giants if Eagles cut him

Young had a breakout 2025 season for the Eagles as he played a massive role on the team when Jalen Carter got hurt late in the year. He finished the year with 37 tackles, four quarterback hits, three tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, and one fumble recovery in 17 games.

If the Eagles decided to cut Young, they would save about $1.5 million, as he enters the final year of his rookie deal, which he originally signed with the Las Vegas Raiders. There have been no indications whether Philly would consider the move, but it is an option to create some cap space.

Seeing Young depart the Eagles just to sign with the Giants would be a tough pill to swallow for Philly and the fan base. He made some great plays late in the year, and the Eagles might not be as inclined to cut him since he can help in the rotation.

Philly might have other targets, like cornerback Michael Carter, to release, since that would make a bigger dent in cap space. The Eagles want to make sure they don't do anything to help the enemy.
