Eagles may have one ugly roster truth emerging from OTAs

This could get messy.

Philadelphia Eagles fans have been counting their blessings that cornerback Riq Woolen is in the picture now for them at CB2.

Many believe the Eagles have arguably the best cornerback tandem in the NFL, with Woolen and All-Pro cornerbacks Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean. Philly is in a much better position than last year, when they were stuck with Adoree' Jackson and Kelee Ringo fighting it out to be average at CB2 throughout the season. Woolen has gotten praise at OTAs for his performance so far, giving that statement of them being in a better position more meaning.

Entering the 2026 season, those concerns are no longer valid, as the starting cornerback lineup appears just as strong as it was in 2024, when Darius Slay was with the Eagles. Even with the starters looking good, that doesn't mean the Eagles are out of the woods at cornerback going into mandatory OTAs this week.

Eagles still have a problem at cornerback with depth

Ringo is one of the best special teams gunners in the NFL, but he has struggled at cornerback, so he still remains on the roster as a backup. Joining him on the bench are free agent signings Jonathan Jones, Jakorian Bennett, Mac McWilliams, Ambry Thomas, and Tariq Castro-Fields, to name a few.

There is a backlog of cornerbacks competing for roster spots, and while the team has many veterans, the overall outlook is more uncertain. More eyes might be on Bennett and McWilliams since they were in Philly last year and didn't really get to show off their skills.

Jones might be one guy to watch out for, as he has had success as a starter with the Washington Commanders and New England Patriots. He feels like an easy choice to be a backup, but there are too many cornerbacks on the roster to be certain of that prediction.

While OTAs might give Eagles fans a better idea of who's got the edge at backup corner, training camp will really determine where this group is at. The starters seem to be in a much better place than in 2025, but if one of them gets hurt, who can step up in their place?
