There are, of course, going to be some disappointed souls in Philly after the Philadelphia Eagles might have missed out on one of the best available defensive players in the offseason.
The sports world was flipped on its head with the news that the Baltimore Ravens had executed a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders to get five-time Pro Bowl edge rusher Maxx Crosby. Las Vegas received a 2026 first-round pick and a 2027 first-round pick as part of the deal.
Rumors were circling around that the Eagles were going to trade for Crosby and give the Raiders two first-round picks and potentially add in two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jalen Carter. While nothing came of the deal, even if Eagles general manager Howie Roseman himself might be disappointed, they dodged a massive bullet with this deal.
Eagles should be okay with missing out on Crosby
It's hard to say the Eagles are better off without Crosby, given his 69.5 sacks in seven seasons, but this might end up being a good thing. Philly might have played this thing out right down the road.
Giving up two first-round picks itself is already a lot to give up for the Eagles, as they have so many positions to fill and limited cap space to use with other big decisions to make. Philly is going to rely on the draft in the next few years more often to fill important positions of need.
With the cap space they have now and in the future, that must be used on key players they are trying to keep within the franchise for a long time. Guys like Jaelan Phillips, who will be a free agent, must get re-signed quickly to avoid hitting the open market.
The future is important for the Eagles, with some key young players ready to land large contract extensions. Eagles defensive tackles Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter are the most important ones for this offseason, with next offseason potentially shifting the focus to All-Pro cornerbacks Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean.

Crosby would have looked great in midnight green and Kelly green in 2026 and beyond, but there are too many things Roseman has to take care of, and bringing Crosby in would have set the franchise back. This was ultimately the right thing to do, even if it might not feel like it initially.
