Eagles' Omar Cooper Jr. dream could be ruined by the worst team imaginable

To say this would sting is an understatement.

One of the most tiresome narratives around not only the Philadelphia Eagles, but the entire NFL over the course of the last year or so, has been the idea of A.J. Brown getting traded.

It's tiresome for everybody involved at this point, and Eagles fans just want to move on in some type of concrete fashion. Now, if that happens to mean Brown is ultimately traded, then the Eagles will need to go out and find another cornerstone to add to that wide receiver room.

And, one of the more popular candidates for that role happens to be former Indiana wideout Omar Cooper Jr., who has gained traction as a possible first-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Should the Eagles land Cooper, then Brown is essentially confirmed a goner.

But, one team might surprise the league and snatch Cooper from right beneath Philadelphia's eyes.

FanSided's Mike Luciano has Cooper ranked as his no. 20 overall prospect in his brand-new Big Board published recently and, as fate would have it, guess who holds the 20th overall pick?

The Dallas Cowboys could do the unthinkable and steal Omar Cooper Jr. from the Philadelphia Eagles

Now, why on earth would the Cowboys go out and draft a wide receiver when they already have CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens coming off a career year?

It's a long shot, but it isn't impossible, and here's why.

Look at Jerry Jones' recent history of contract negotiations with star players. It took way longer than it should have to get Lamb's latest deal done.

Oh, uh, and that Micah Parsons guy? Jones decided to flat-out trade him rather than paying him the money he absolutely deserved.

Jones and the Cowboys have a tendency to do things backwards at times. And, it isn't far fetched to think the Cowboys could wind up botching another set of key negotiations with Pickens.

Entering the 2026 season, Pickens is set to play on the franchise tag. But, after a career year and well-positioned for a monster contract, he may not get the long-term deal he seeks in Dallas.

What happens if the Cowboys view Cooper as the best player on the board at pick 20 and opt to not only further bolster that offense, but in essence, future-proof themselves against an eventual Pickens loss?

Look, if we were talking about plenty of other teams or owners, this wouldn't even be a discussion. But, it's the Cowboys.

Don't ever underestimate Jerry Jones when it comes to doing something completely unorthodox or, for lack of a better term, botching a situation in brutal fashion. That's exactly what could happen with Pickens, and even Cowboys fans know it.

If Dallas winds up with Cooper with the Eagles' pick just three spots later at 23, that would sting. It would be the absolute worst landing spot this fan base could dream up for one of their favorite prospects.

Let's hope it doesn't happen.
