Well, the Philadelphia Eagles might have missed out on trading for Maxx Crosby, but Eagles fans can at least be happy that they locked up one of their top players for a long period of time.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that the Eagles are finalizing a contract extension with defensive tackle Jordan Davis. The deal is for three years, with $78 million total and $65 million guaranteed. That total deal is worth $26 million per year, making him the highest-paid nose tackle in NFL history.

Last season was a memorable one for Davis as it was the best one of his NFL career. In 17 games, he racked up career-highs in tackles (72), quarterback hits (six), pass deflections (six), tackles for loss (five), and sacks (4.5).

Eagles give Jordan Davis a massive contract extension

This is a big deal, especially since Davis has become a leader within the locker room over the last year. He proved that he can improve his play after losing 26 pounds before training camp. That hard work to lose the weight paid off as he played in a career-high 61% of the defensive snaps.

Some would argue that Davis outplayed two-time Pro Bowler Jalen Carter last year on the field, particularly in rushing the quarterback and stopping the running game. Davis was considered one of the biggest snubs from the Pro Bowl after not getting in.

The Eagles secure the future on the defensive line for at least one play. Philly's next big move will be to try to get something done with Carter, and that would secure the line for the next several years.

It was expected that Eagles general manager Howie Roseman would reward Davis for his hard work and dedication to the organization. This is a great move for Philly and one that sets the foundation for the future.
