10 best Eagles free-agent options for replacing Avonte Maddox
Here are the top five available free-agent options the Eagles have at cornerback.
Five down... five to go... Here are the best remaining free agents at the cornerback position.
5. Bryce Callahan
The last time we saw Bryce Callahan, the L.A. Chargers were blowing a big lead in Duval County. Callahan is one of the more impressive players on this list. He's also one of the most experienced.
He's appeared in 82 games with 56 starts (that includes last year's playoff game). At five-foot-nine and 188 pounds, he's a prototypical slot corner.
4. Byron Jones
Once upon a time, the 2020 offseason to be exact, Byron Jones and James Bradberry were the best available free agents at the cornerback position. We all know how Eagles fans feel about former Dallas Cowboys in Eagles jerseys. Often, that hasn't worked, but even though Jones is on the back half of his career, his resume speaks for itself.
3. Casey Hayward
This guy has been around for a while, but while being 34 years old makes some believe he needs to be ushered to a retirement home, Casey Hayward, without question is still deserving of a spot in the top five. He's five-foot-eleven, 192 pounds and the owner of 161 career in-game appearances and games and 123 starts.
2. Anthony Brown
Brown most recently spent time with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was signed to their practice squad on August 30th and released on September 14th. Eagles fans recognize the five-foot-eleven, 196-pounder because of his seven seasons in Dallas with the enemy.
1. Cameron Dantzler
Cameron Dantzler is the best free-agent cornerback available. He's probably better suited to play outside (he's six-foot-two and tips the scales at 190 pounds), but if the Birds play around with formations where James Bradberry plays inside as a slot corner, this is an arrangement that could work for the short term.
Honorable mention: Bradley Roby
Keep an eye on Bradley Roby as well. A Super Bowl champion (50), he brings championship experience and a veteran presence to any team he joins. That could be of benefit to the Birds. They have a lot of young guys that they're trying to coach up.
