10 players who need to perform well during Eagles preseason Week 1 game

Everyone playing in the first preseason game needs a big night, but here are ten Eagles whose progress we'll most certainly be monitoring.

If you're new to this, there are a few things you're certain to learn quickly. If you aren't. you're well aware of the statements that follow. Three preseason games make up the Philadelphia Eagles and every other NFL team's slate. If you're one of those players who are seeing a lot of playing time, the coaches are, in essence, telling you they need to see more.

If you're playing late in that third game... Oh boy! Man, you're in a ton of trouble. But, let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. We must approach this from a 'one game at a time' mindset. Things are about to get interesting.

Most of the starting lineup is set. We know who many of the reserves are, but there are a few spots that are available. Everyone playing needs to make an impression, but we'll be paying close attention to some guys with a lot riding on their performances.

Tanner McKee and Kenny Pickett: The race for the backup QB role

Many of us probably just assumed that Kenny Pickett would handle the backup quarterback duties upon his arrival. Shame on us! This is actually shaping up to be a pretty good battle.

Tanner McKee showed up to camp with the intent of proving himself, and at times, he has outperformed the lifelong Eagles fan. Stay tuned. There's still much to be decided.

Mekhi Becton and Tyler Steen: The race for the starting RG role

Tyler Steen seemingly began camp as a member of the Eagles first team. He got hurt during a Saturday afternoon practice. Mekhi Becton stepped in and seemingly hasn't given his job back. Both need to play. Both guys need some polish because both

Will Shipley, running back

Will Shipley is exciting. He has seemingly mastered the wheel route, but if he doesn't improve as a backfield pass protector, you won't see him on the field much this season.

Nolan Smith Jr., EDGE

What can we say about Nolan Smith that hasn't already been said? He needs to prove this season that Philly didn't waste a first-round draft choice by taking him.

He has beaten up on the reserves when given a chance in training camp. He has disappeared when scrimmaging versus better players. Let's hope he shows up when on the field during the preseason.

James Bradberry, safety

It doesn't seem like we need to explain this one. We will anyway. James Bradberry is still on the Eagles roster and attempting to learn a new position.

Something crossed our minds though. The longer he stays around, that might be a sign that he's winning Vic Fangio over.

Eli Ricks, Zech McPhearson, and Josh Jobe

Eli Ricks, Zech McPhearson, and Josh Jobe are all on the 90-man preseason roster. They won't all be on the 53-man roster in a few weeks. Special teams play might determine who stays and who leaves. Might they all be competing for one roster spot?

Worth mentioning: Every WR not named AJ Brown or DeVonta Smith

AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith are phenomenal. We all know that, but who in the heck is this team's third wide receiver?

Parris Campbell has been injured as of late. Britain Covey has had a nice showing at camp. John Ross and Johnny Wilson are in the mix.

Joseph Ngata and Ainias Smith have disappeared. There's a lot of time left, but that time is also running out quickly.
