4 free agents the Eagles could sign from the Cardinals 2023 roster
By Jake Beckman
This will be ugly, but since we’re looking at free agents from every team that the Philadelphia Eagles could sign (and they're doing the same thing), we must see what the Arizona Cardinals can offer. Truthfully, it’s not a lot.
They had a severe lack of talent in 2023, and when you dive into looking at their impending free agents, it shows. Marquise Brown is a free agent, but the Eagles don’t need a WR1/WR2. They need guys on defense. The Cardinals could help with that. Their defense was really bad, but they had a few guys. Let’s get through this together.
The pickings are slim if the Eagles want to look at impending free agents from the 2023 Cardinals.
Might any of these guys be future Eagles. We wouldn't hold our breath, but we've been wrong before.
1. Antonio Hamilton - Cornerback
Antonio Hamilton is entering his ninth NFL season, and he’s 31 years old. We all know what it’s like seeing this Eagles’ defense field a secondary with too many guys on the wrong side of 30. It’s not good.
That being said, the Eagles still added guys like Bradley Roby (31 years old) and Kevin Byard (30) last season
If the Eagles did sign Antonio Hamilton, we can only hope he would just be a guy competing for a job (like Greedy Williams last offseason) rather than a guy who they plan on using as a building block.
2. Josh Woods - Linebacker
Josh Woods is 27 years old and entering his sixth NFL season. He has totaled five sacks during his career. Last season was cut short for him thanks to a trip to the injured reserve (his issue was undisclosed).
Former Eagles LB Kyzir White landed on the Cards' IR early last season, and Woods took the mantle, wearing the green dot on defense as the signal-caller.
That’s pretty much it for him. The Eagles need bodies in the linebacker room, and Josh Woods is a body.
3. Jonathan Ledbetter - Defensive End
Jonathan Ledbetter is 26 years old and entering his fourth NFL season. He had been a practice squad guy and backup during his first two seasons but was a consistent starter for the first time in 2023.
His season ended in Week 16 after he suffered some kind of knee injury against the Chicago Bears. He finished 2023 with 46 tackles and 1.5 sacks. If he gets signed by Philly, he’d be a depth guy competing for a job.
4. Greg Dortch - Wide Receiver
Greg Dortch is 25 years old and entering his fourth season. Last year he was the Cardinals' WR4, but in 2022 he was the WR3 because of injuries and DeAndre Hopkins’ suspension. The point is this. He is a capable player.
In the past couple of years, we saw the Eagles field some big WR3s: Zach Pascal (six-foot-two, 215 pounds), Julio Jones (six-foot-three 220 pounds), Quez Watkins (six-foot-tall, 195 pounds). Olamide Zaccheaus (five-foot-eight, 195 pounds) is the exception.
Dortch is even smaller than Zaccheaus at five-foot-seven and 175 pounds. He’s not an answer for the potential hole at WR3, but if the Eagles keep rotating players at WR3 as they’ve done, he could be useful.
