47 Philadelphia Eagles who are certain to make the initial 53-man roster
Three preseason games are gone. We know the drill now. It's on to roster cuts. The deadline to trim the squad to 53 men is 4 pm EST on Tuesday, July 27. We expect surprises as always, though this time we don't expect any undrafted rookies to make the team.
The top half of the Eagles' roster is solid. If no one gets injured, this team will win a lot of games, but you can't bank on an injury-free season ever. Hopefully the reserves are ready if called upon.
In the meantime, arguments can be made that the Eagles field stars at every position. They have nothing to worry about come Tuesday. Here's a look at everyone that qualifies and some of the other locks to make the roster.

We can safely assume that 48 Eagles roster spots were filled before the final preseason game.
Preseason is the same grind for most NFL teams. Much of the roster is set. Three games will determine the winners of a handful of spots.
We think we know who the lucky Birds are with Tuesday's deadline approaching, but we'll save that for a roster prediction. Here is a look at all of the locks.
The specialists (3)
No one on this list should surprise anyone.
Player name | Position |
---|---|
Jake Elliott | Kicker |
Braden Mann | Punter/Holder |
Rick Lovato | Long Snapper |
The Quarterbacks (3)
As is the case with the specialists, this list hasn't changed since Kenny Pickett's arrival.
Name | Position |
---|---|
Jalen Hurts | QB1 |
Kenny Pickett | Backup Quarterback |
Tanner McKee | Third String |
The Running Backs (3)
The question is this. Will the Eagles keep three running backs or four.
Name | Position |
---|---|
Saquon Barkley | Starter |
Kenneth Gainwell | Second String |
Will Shipley | Reserve |
The Wide Receivers (5)
MIght we see a surprise or two at the wide receiver position? We won't have to wait much longer to learn the answer to that question.
Name | Position |
---|---|
A.J. Brown | Starter |
DeVonta Smith | Starter |
Jahan Dotson | Expected starter at the slot |
Johnny Wilson | Reserve |
Britain Covey | Reserve and punt returner |
Tight Ends (2)
In years past, there hasn't been much help for Dallas Goedert or a reasonable replacement when he has been injured, but Grant Calcaterra has steadily improved. If his training camp and preseason showings are any indication, he may have turned the corner en route to a pretty impressive regular season.
Name | Position |
---|---|
Dallas Goedert | Starter |
Grant Calcaterra | Backup |
The Offensive Line (9)
The starting lineup is set. Some of the reserves have earned their spots as well.

Bryce Huff | Starter |
Nolan Smith | Reserve |
Brandon Graham | Reserve |
Jalyx Hunt | Reserve |
Interior Defensive Lineman (5)
Always a key cog of the Eagles' roster-building process, Fletcher Cox has moved on to the next chapter of his life, but

Jalen Carter | Starter |
Jordan Davis | Starter |
Milton Williams | Very underrated reserve |
Marlon Tuipulotu | Reserve |
Moro Ojomo | Young Jedi in training |
Interior Linebackers (4)
Oren Burks and Ben VanSumeren have played well. One or the other may convince the Eagles to keep five interior linebackers.
Name | Position |

Nakobe Dean | Should be a starter |

Zack Baun | Possible Starter |
Jeremiah Trotter Jr | Reserve |
Cornerbacks (6)

Name | Position |
---|---|
C.J. Gardner-Johnson | Starter |
Reed Blankenship | Starter |
Worth mentioning: The injured players (and one international exemption)
Keep an eye on Sydney Brown. He'll be added to the roster once he is medically cleared to return.
