Biggest defensive question mark: Defensive tackle
Last season, the most glaring issue for the defense early on was the run defense. Javon Hargrave and Fletcher Cox did well to attack the QB but the run-stuffing element was not there until the acquisitions of Ndamukong Suh and Linval Joseph. With those veterans gone, Fletcher a year older, and the uncertainty of Jordan Davis' ability to stay on the field, controlling the line of scrimmage in the run game will once again be a question mark.
Jalen Carter is a dynamic player who is expected to help the run defense and pass rush but the uncertainty of how quickly Carter can become a high-level contributor will be a question until he gets on the field on game day. Rookies can be inconsistent and even the best prospects can falter.
Even if he turns out to be spectacular from the beginning, he won't be able to do it alone. The linebackers will play a huge role in controlling the run game but they are all either new or young. There are no guarantees for either.
