Chris Simms gives Jalen Hurts some bulletin board material for 2024 season

Perhaps Simms forgot that Hurts led the Eagles to the Super Bowl just one year ago.

It's doubtful that Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts needed any additional motivation or bulletin board material for the 2024 season. We can always count on one guy though. QB1 certainly had the battery placed in his back by a former NFL quarterback, one Chris Simms.

During a recent appearance on the PHNX Arizona Cardinals Podcast, Simms explained why he thinks Philadelphia's starting quarterback is extremely "overrated," and why Hurts' success is due largely to his supporting cast.

“I respect a lot about Jalen Hurts, but I think Jalen Hurts is also like the most overrated player in football,” Simms said.

“That’s me, I know I’m wrong," he added. "I take a lot of crap about that comment. But, he plays quarterback for a team that’s an all-star team. They have the best O-line in football, it’s not even close. They got maybe the best duo at receiver in all of football. I just think if you put some other quarterbacks in Philly, you put Kyler Murray in there, you’d say ‘Damn, Kyler’s amazing. Is he the MVP of football?’"

It's entirely too early for Chris Simms or anyone else to begin doubting Eagles QB Jalen Hurts.

After an underwhelming season both for Hurts individually and the Eagles as a team, the national perception of the Birds and their starting quarterback is understandably down. However, it's important to remember that this is the same quarterback who went toe-to-toe with Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl just a year ago.

Is Hurts a perfect player? No, there's certainly room for improvement in some areas. However, writing him off after one relatively subpar season would be a mistake. After all, the dude is still just 25 years old and he already has two Pro Bowl appearances to his name.

Hurts is no stranger to being on the receiving end of doubt and criticism, and Eagles fans just have to hope that he is able to use it as fuel and motivation, just as he has in the past.
