Defensive back named as player Eagles should put on trading block

This year, the NFL's trade deadline is set for Nov. 5. Between now and then, the Philadelphia Eagles can engage in trades with other teams, if they so choose. One player that they should consider trading -- according to Bleacher Report -- is corberback-turned-safety James Bradberry.

Should the Eagles try to trade James Bradberry?

After an underwhelming 2023 campaign, Bradberry switched from cornerback to safety over the offseason, but the outlet still thinks that the Eagles should move on from the veteran sooner rather than later, as he certainly doesn't appear to be in the team's long-term plans. From Bleacher Report:

"The move shows the Eagles believe there is a spot for the 31-year-old to contribute, but with his lack of experience at the position and a moveable contract that has two years left, GM Howie Roseman could begin making calls to teams in need of veteran legs in their secondary."

Sure, it's easy to say that the Eagles should move on from Bradberry, but at the end of the day, what would the team be able to get in return for him? There's no point in making a move simply to make one. It would have to be beneficial.

Perhaps a team desperate for secondary help would be willing to part with a late-round future pick, but it's difficult to imagine the Eagles being able to get too much more for a 31-year old defensive player coming off of a down season.

At that point, it might be better for the Eagles to just hang onto Bradberry for the 2024 season. His role will be reduced following Philadelphia's offseason additions in the secondary, and in that case Bradberry could potentially even prove valuable in a reserve role as a utility defensive back who could fill it at either cornerback or safety if needed.

There have been calls for the Eagles to trade -- or cut -- Bradberry since the end of last season, and it hasn't happened yet. It's easy to understand why Bleacher Report would suggest that the Birds try to flip him, but it seems unlikely at this point.
