Eagles announce decisions on four injured players, two more miss first practice
To say we're off and running would be an understatement. Philadelphia Eagles veterans and rookies reported to training camp on July 23rd. We knew the first practice wouldn't be held until a day later on Wednesday, but before we arrived to see that, there were some minor shockwaves.
Cooper DeJean has a hamstring injury. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler was first with the report.
Coop will miss the majority of training camp by sitting out for the three weeks. That opens the doors for other guys to get work (and maybe a few more eyes from the coaches). The absence of a few other Birds will do the same. In the meantime, some roster shuffing has been announced.
The Eagles place three players on their Active Non-Football Injury List and another on the Physically Unable to Perform List. Two other players miss the first practice.
Philly made things official by placing DeJean on their Active Non-Football Injury List before the first training camp practice. Offensive tackle Gottlieb Ayedze and wide receiver Shaq Davis will join him there, It has also been announced that safety Sydney Brown has been placed on the Active Physically Unable to Perform List.
One of the more noticeable absences from practices was two-time Pro Bowler Landon Dickerson. He's healing from a toe laceration, so Mekhi Becton ran with the first-team offense at left guard. If you're curious, Tyler Steen ran with the ones at right guard.
Brett Toth also sat out of the first practice session (and the second). Like, DeJean, he is recovering from a hamstring injury. Both he and Landon are listed as being 'day-to-day'. Oren Burks sat out with a knee injury on Thursday. We'll certainly be monitoring the progression of everyone dealing with injuries.
Update: Philly waives Gottlieb Ayedze.
One day after announcing that they are placing Gottlieb Ayedze on the Non-Football Injury List, the Eagles announced they are waiving him. Griffin Herbert has now been signed to the roster. He had previously been waived on April 30th.
