Eagles announce four roster moves including Devon Allen's activation
Believe it or not, we have officially entered a game week. Pay close attention moving forward if you haven't been already. The Philadelphia Eagles travel to Maryland for a date with the Baltimore Ravens in the first preseason game for both teams.
Philly took Monday off following a busy Sunday evening, one where they announced several roster moves and participated in an open practice for the public at Lincoln Financial Field. It was hard to see some of the numbers on the jerseys, especially on those neon-on-white ensembles, but hey, it was still a lot of fun.
The Birds got back to wok on Tuesday. The festivities began with offensive coordinator Brian Johnson's sit-down with the media. Several roster moves were announced ahead of practice.
Remember that track star? Yep! He's back. The Birds also shuffled a few bodies at the bottom of the depth chart.
Eagles activate Devon Allen from the Active/Non-Football Injury List and announce three other roster moves ahead of their eighth training camp practice.
Don't tell anyone we told you this, but we were beginning to believe the Eagles intended to stash Devon Allen on the Active/Non-Football Injury List for a while.
We didn't think he was going to make the team... like ever. We knew, however, that Philly liked him and wanted to keep him around for a while, so here's what we were thinking. , but here's the thing.
Even though carrying Allen on the NFI list meant he counted towards the 90-man training camp roster, that changes once the Birds reach the regular season and have to trim the 90-man roster down to 53 men. His occupation of the NFI wouldn't force Philly to use a roster spot.
None of that really matters now because our theories were wrong. The Eagles announced his activation from the NFI to the 90-man training camp roster on August 8th as part of four roster moves on Tuesday. Here's the official tweet from X.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with Johnny King, he was in Indianapolis at Colts training camp until they released him last Wednesday. He's a six-foot-five, 209-pound wide receiver and a rookie free agent out of Southeast Missouri State.
In 36 career games at Southeast Missouri State (2020-22) and Northeastern Oklahoma A&M (2019), he collected 142 receptions for 1,836 yards and 14 touchdowns. He joins a crowded wide receiver room, and he's behind in terms of learning the playbook, but he is someone worth watching.
